Gianluigi Buffon’s Son Louis, 17, Earns First International Call-Up
Louis Buffon, the 17-year-old son of legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, has received his first international call-up. However, in a surprising twist, the young midfielder will not be representing Italy but has instead been selected for the Czech Republic’s U-18 squad.
A New Chapter for the Buffon Legacy
Gianluigi Buffon, widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, made 176 appearances for the Italian national team between 1997 and 2018. His illustrious career includes winning the 2006 FIFA World Cup and finishing as runner-up at Euro 2012. While Buffon spent nearly his entire club career in Italy, his son has now chosen a different international path.
Why Louis Buffon Chose the Czech Republic
Despite being born in Italy, Louis Buffon is eligible to play for the Czech Republic through his mother, Alena Šeredová, a Czech model. He has been called up for the Czech U-18 squad ahead of matches against England and France.
Louis currently plays as a winger for Serie B side Pisa and was recently included in the first-team squad for their 1-1 draw against Cesena. Pisa’s head coach, Filippo Inzaghi—who was once a teammate of Gianluigi Buffon at Juventus—praised the young talent, stating, “Buffon’s call-up was deserved. He often helps us in training, and it’s a reward for the club’s youth development.”
Rising Star in Italian Football
Louis Buffon’s growing reputation in Italy is drawing attention, especially as Pisa currently sits second in Serie B, aiming for a long-awaited return to Serie A. If he continues his rapid development, he could soon make an impact at the senior level, potentially choosing to represent the Czech Republic at a major tournament.
While Gianluigi Buffon’s legacy in Italian football remains untouchable, his son is now forging his own path—one that could see him making history for a different national team.
