Arsenal’s Takehiro Tomiyasu Ruled Out for the Season After Knee Surgery
Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his right knee. The 26-year-old has struggled with the injury all season, making just one Premier League appearance as a substitute in a win over Southampton back in October.
Persistent Injury Forces Further Surgery
Tomiyasu initially sustained the knee injury during pre-season and underwent surgery in August. However, ongoing complications required a second procedure, side-lining him until late 2024.
Arsenal confirmed that the Japan international has now started his rehabilitation program, with a lengthy recovery period ahead.
“It has been the toughest period in my career for sure, and it carries on a bit more, but I won’t give up,” Tomiyasu shared on Instagram. “Thank you for your support and see you soon at the stadium.”
Arsenal’s Growing Injury Concerns
Tomiyasu’s absence adds to Arsenal’s injury woes, with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus already ruled out for the season. Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Ben White are also struggling with injuries, putting pressure on Mikel Arteta’s squad as they chase the Premier League title.
Arsenal’s Next Fixture
Currently sitting second in the table, Arsenal trail leaders Liverpool by seven points. They will aim to close the gap when they host West Ham at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
