Blackburn Rovers Eye Luis Boa Morte and George Boateng for Managerial Role
Blackburn Rovers are set to interview former Arsenal star Luis Boa Morte and Middlesbrough legend George Boateng as they search for a replacement for John Eustace, who recently left to join Derby County.
Surprise Contenders for the Blackburn Job
Currently sitting fifth in the Championship, Blackburn are pushing for promotion and are keen to appoint a new permanent manager to continue their momentum. Despite their limited managerial experience, Boa Morte and Boateng have emerged as unexpected contenders for the role.
Luis Boa Morte’s Coaching Experience
Boa Morte, currently managing Guinea-Bissau’s national team, took the job in March 2024. While his record of one win, four draws, and five losses in ten matches is modest, his coaching career includes valuable experience as an assistant to Marco Silva at Fulham and Everton.
Prior to that, he held coaching roles at Sporting Lisbon’s reserves, Portimonense’s youth setup, and Maccabi Haifa, as well as managing Portuguese third-tier club Sintrense.
As a player, Boa Morte was part of Arsenal’s 1997/98 double-winning squad before becoming a Fulham fan favorite, where he later captained the club. His Premier League experience and coaching background could provide the leadership and tactical knowledge Blackburn need in their push for promotion.
George Boateng’s Managerial Credentials
Boateng’s only head coaching role came in 2014/15 with Malaysian club Kelantan, where he won 18 of 37 matches. However, he has remained active in coaching, particularly in youth development.
He has strong ties to Blackburn, having previously coached at Rovers’ academy between 2018 and 2019. Since then, he has worked as Aston Villa’s Professional Development Coach and served as assistant manager for Ghana’s national team and Coventry City.
Boateng’s leadership on the pitch was evident during his playing days, making 384 Premier League appearances and captaining Middlesbrough to League Cup glory in 2004—the club’s first major trophy. His Championship experience and youth development expertise make him an intriguing option.
Who Will Lead Blackburn’s Promotion Push?
With Blackburn Rovers in the thick of the Championship promotion race, their next managerial appointment is crucial.
- Boa Morte brings international coaching experience and Premier League connections.
- Boateng offers familiarity with Blackburn, youth development expertise, and strong leadership credentials.
As the club continues its search, Rovers fans eagerly await the decision on who will guide them toward a Premier League return.
