Liverpool Injury Update – Gakpo, Bradley & Gomez Latest Ahead of Man City Clash
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has shared the latest injury updates on Cody Gakpo, Conor Bradley, and Joe Gomez ahead of the Reds’ crucial Premier League showdown against Manchester City this Sunday.
Cody Gakpo – A Late Fitness Test
Gakpo, who has missed Liverpool’s last two league matches, remains a doubt for the highly anticipated clash at the Etihad Stadium. Slot revealed that the forward is yet to return to full training, making his availability a “close call” for the 4:30 PM GMT kickoff.
“Let’s see,” Slot said in his pre-match press conference on Thursday. “I hope he’s available, but I’m not 100% sure. He hasn’t trained with the team yet—maybe he does a bit today. I don’t know exactly, but it will be a close call.”
Conor Bradley – Unlikely to Feature
Bradley, who came on as a second-half substitute in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Aston Villa, was forced off with an injury. Slot admitted that the young right-back is unlikely to feature against Manchester City or Newcastle next Wednesday.
“No, he still has to come in, so we don’t know yet,” Slot explained. “I would be completely surprised if he’s involved on Sunday or Wednesday. You can assume that’s not going to happen.”
Joe Gomez – Surgery Confirmed
Liverpool have also suffered a significant setback with Joe Gomez, who has undergone hamstring surgery and is expected to be sidelined for an extended period.
“Joe had surgery for his hamstring injury, so he’ll be out for a long time,” Slot confirmed. “He may be back just before the end of the season.”
Jota & Alexander-Arnold Easing Back
Meanwhile, Diogo Jota and Trent Alexander-Arnold are not injured but continue to be managed carefully after returning from previous setbacks. Slot emphasized the need to avoid overloading them, particularly during Liverpool’s busy schedule.
“That’s why they’re not playing 90 minutes five times in a row in 15 days,” Slot explained. “We saw this yesterday with Conor Bradley, and we have to be cautious.”
Liverpool will now await further medical assessments before finalizing their squad for Sunday’s pivotal encounter at Etihad Stadium.
