Manchester United Injury Crisis Forces Ruben Amorim to Call Up Five Academy Stars for Tottenham Clash

Young Talent Steps Up as Manchester United Battles Injury Woes

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is set to include five academy players in his senior squad for the crucial Premier League showdown against Tottenham Hotspur. With an escalating injury crisis depleting his options, Amorim has turned to United’s youth ranks to reinforce his squad.

Amad Diallo’s Injury Adds to United’s Woes

United’s injury list worsened this week after Amad Diallo suffered an ankle ligament injury in training, potentially ruling him out for the rest of the season. The team is also set to be without Kobbie Mainoo for several weeks after he picked up an injury in midweek. Midfielders Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer are also expected to miss the trip to North London, further limiting Amorim’s options.

Defensive concerns continue to pile up, with Lisandro Martínez out for at least six months following surgery. Luke Shaw and Mason Mount remain sidelined with long-term issues, while goalkeepers Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton, along with veteran defender Jonny Evans, have also been unavailable in recent matches.

Academy Stars Named in United’s Squad for Tottenham Match

With so many key players ruled out, Amorim has called up several academy stars to bolster his squad. Sékou Koné and Jack Moorhouse—two promising midfielders—are expected to travel with the senior team. Highly-rated Chido Obi, fresh off a hat-trick in United’s 5-1 Youth Cup win over Chelsea, has also earned his first call-up.

Additionally, Elyh Harrison will join the squad to provide backup in goal, while Harry Amass, who was unable to secure a loan move in January, is also in line for a place in the matchday squad.

Amorim Confirms Obi’s First-Team Training Inclusion

Speaking ahead of the match, Amorim addressed the injury concerns and the promotion of youth players. While he refrained from mentioning specific names, he acknowledged Obi’s impressive form:

“We called some players to be in our training so we have the data and evaluation, and he is one of them,” Amorim said.

Will United’s Youngsters Get a Chance?

While it is unlikely that any of the academy players will start against Tottenham, they are expected to feature on the bench for Sunday’s clash. With United’s squad stretched thin, these young stars could have an opportunity to make an impact as the season progresses.
