Michael Carrick Staying at Middlesbrough Despite Steve Cooper Speculation

Michael Carrick will remain as Middlesbrough manager this week, despite growing speculation about his future and reports linking former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper as a potential replacement.

Boro’s hierarchy is backing Carrick and is keen to give him time to turn around the club’s recent poor form. Despite their struggles, Middlesbrough sits just four points outside the play-off spots with a game in hand.

Currently positioned 11th in the Championship, Boro has managed only three wins in their last 15 games. The recent defeat to Watford fueled speculation that chairman Steve Gibson might end Carrick’s tenure. However, Gibson remains a strong supporter of the former Manchester United star, believing he can lead the club to a top-six finish.

Carrick, who signed a new three-year contract before the season, was heavily backed in the transfer market, with the club aiming for Premier League promotion. While the campaign hasn’t gone as planned, Boro remains focused on Friday night’s crucial clash against Bristol City.

With Middlesbrough players reportedly still behind their manager and club officials showing patience, Carrick has a chance to steer the team back into contention.
