Wayne Rooney Lands New Coaching Role in Dubai After Plymouth Argyle Exit
Wayne Rooney has quickly returned to coaching, taking on a new role less than two months after being sacked by Plymouth Argyle. However, the former Manchester United and England star isn’t mentoring elite footballers this time. Instead, he’s leading a short-term coaching residency at the luxurious Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai.
Rooney, who was dismissed by Plymouth on New Year’s Eve following a disappointing spell in charge, has joined Football Escapes, a program that offers high-end training experiences for children at luxury resorts worldwide. His five-day coaching stint in Dubai allows young players to learn from one of the Premier League’s all-time greats while their parents enjoy the resort’s exclusive amenities.
A High-End Football Experience
According to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel’s website, the program blends “exciting football sessions with a world-class coaching experience.” Parents can relax by the beach, indulge in fine dining, or explore family-friendly activities while their children receive expert training from Rooney.
However, this elite football experience comes at a steep price. A holiday package for a family of four during Rooney’s residency costs between £7,500 and £8,650—a premium price for the chance to be coached by the all-time top scorer in Manchester United history.
Rooney’s Coaching Career So Far
Despite his struggles in management, Rooney remains determined to stay in the game. Since returning to English football in 2023, he has managed just 40 matches combined across his spells with Birmingham City (15) and Plymouth Argyle (25). His managerial career began at Derby County, where he faced severe financial difficulties and relegation battles.
Rooney, 39, has expressed his ambition to continue coaching at a high level, despite his 25.3% win rate as a manager. While his latest role in Dubai is far from the intensity of the Championship, it could serve as a stepping stone for his next managerial opportunity.
Could this experience reignite Rooney’s passion for management? Only time will tell.
